Gathering & Sending Us Your Memories

A simple, step-by-step guide to collecting your photos and videos and uploading them to your private Spotlight folder. No tech skills required.

Step One • Gather

Whatever you have is enough

You don’t need perfect footage or a plan. Old formats, odd sizes, shaky clips: all welcome. The imperfect moments are often the most honest. Here’s what to look for.

Photos

Any era, any condition, from newborn puppy pictures to last week’s nap on the couch.

Phone videos

Those little clips on your camera roll: zoomies, greetings, silly habits, quiet moments.

Old home footage

Camcorder tapes, DVDs, or digital files from years past. We restore and color-match what needs it.

Social media clips

Anything you’ve posted to Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok that you’d love in the film.

Screenshots & screen recordings

FaceTime moments, video calls, or a favorite photo saved from a text message.

Voice memos & sounds

A distinctive bark, a nickname, a family member telling a favorite story.

A few gentle tips before you start

Don’t worry about quality. Blurry, dark, or shaky is completely fine, so send it anyway.
More is better. Send everything you’re unsure about. We’ll lovingly sort through it all for you.
No editing or organizing needed. Please don’t trim or delete anything. Just upload the originals.
Look in the forgotten places. Old phones, family group chats, a partner’s camera roll, cloud backups.

Step Two • Round It Up

Finding your files

A quick tour of where your memories usually live. Gather them in one spot (a folder on your desktop or an album on your phone) so they’re easy to upload next.

📱 On an iPhone or iPad

Open the Photos app.
Tap Select (top right), then tap each photo and video you want.
Tip: create a new album (“For Spotlight”) and add them there as you go.
You’ll send these in the next step, so no need to export them now.

🥇 On an Android phone

Open Google Photos (or your Gallery app).
Touch and hold a photo, then tap others to select more.
Optional: tap Add to album and make one called “For Spotlight.”
Keep them handy for the upload step.

💻 On a computer

Make a new folder on your desktop named “For Spotlight.”
Drag in every photo and video file you’d like us to consider.
Pull from Downloads, Pictures, external drives, and cloud backups.

📼 Old tapes & physical media

Don’t have a way to play them? That’s okay.
Just mention it on your call, and we can guide you on digitizing, or help arrange it.
DVDs and SD cards can often be uploaded directly from a computer.

Naming things (totally optional, always appreciated)

If a clip is especially meaningful, a short filename like “Bella-first-day-home” helps us feature it.
Not sure of dates? Don’t stress. We’ll ask about the important moments during your project.

Step Three • Upload

Sending it all to us

We’ll email you a private, secure Google Drive link made just for you. Uploading is as simple as dragging your files into the folder. Here’s exactly how.

Open your private link

Find the email from us with the subject line about your upload folder, and click the button or link inside. It opens your own Spotlight folder in any web browser.

No Google account required to upload; the link is all you need.

Add your files

On a computer: drag your “For Spotlight” folder (or the selected files) right into the browser window. Or click New → File upload.

On a phone: tap the + or Upload button, choose Photos & Videos, and select everything you gathered.

Let it finish

A progress bar shows each file uploading. Keep the tab open and stay on Wi-Fi if you can, since larger videos take a little longer. You can upload in batches over several days; just return to the same link.

Tell us you’re done

Once everything shows as uploaded, reply to our email with a quick “all set!” That’s our cue to begin. If anything felt tricky, just say so. We’re glad to help or hop on a call.

Peace of mind

Your folder is private. Only you and our small team can see what’s inside.
Your originals stay yours. We only ever work from copies, so nothing is deleted from your devices.

Filming & interviews (if your film includes them)

We capture beautiful present-day footage and short, natural interviews that give the film its voice.

The edit

We blend your archive with new footage, weave in music, and shape it into an emotionally satisfying film, then share a preview cut for your notes.

The premiere

Your finished film arrives in a private online screening room, with downloadable files that are yours to keep forever.
